Reuniting with my family roots
It started with my move to Sparta, New Jersey in August 2013. The cozy porch in my Sparta apartment reminded me of the porch on my family's farm in Canada, where I spent the summers of my youth knitting with my Nana, Margaret Johnston.
Nana brought her knitting skills with her from Ireland
In 1921, at 21 years of age, Margaret emigrated from Ireland to Canada, where she was welcomed by the Irish immigrant community in Toronto. Like most immigrants, Nana did not leave much of the old country behind. She brought her Irish scones, poems, and her Irish riddles --- but most of all she brought her passion and expertise as a knitter.
Knitting helped Nana stay quick and alert
Nana took her knitting very seriously throughout her life. She was still healthy and actively knitting at 88 years of age. I believe knitting helped keep her mind quick and vibrant until the age of 91.
Knitting, this passion of my youth
On that porch in Sparta, I began to reconnect with my family roots through knitting. I quickly realized that this passion of my youth was something I wanted to pursue. I’ve always had a desire to understand the human mind and to improve our ability to stay sharp as we age.
A New Business is Born
So it was on that porch in Sparta, New Jersey that I built the business and launched full steam ahead into Love You Knits with my full line of Di's 3d yarn art designs. I hope you enjoy my collection. - Di
